Andreas Mogensen embarks on his second mission, as Huginn reaches new heights.

On August 26, 2023, Andreas Mogensen embarked on his second mission to the International Space Station (ISS), known as Huginn. Joined by Crew-7, Mogensen, an astronaut from the European Space Agency (ESA), launched aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft Endurance. The crew also includes Jasmin Moghbeli from NASA, Satoshi Furukawa from JAXA, and Konstantin Borisov from Roscosmos. Their mission is expected to last approximately six months, during which they will reside on the ISS located 420 kilometers above Earth.

That’s not Mogensen’s first venture into space. In 2015, he participated in the “iriss” mission which lasted for ten days. However, Huginn is significant as it marks his first launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, and his inaugural experience with the Crew Dragon spacecraft.

The crew’s journey began with their arrival at the Kennedy Space Center on August 20. Viewers can watch the replay of this pivotal moment and other highlights such as the lift-off and Andreas Mogensen piloting the Crew Dragon during the eleventh overall crewed orbital flight. These moments are captured in a video available on the Huginn mission page.

One interesting aspect of this mission was the inclusion of special passengers who served as zero gravity indicators. These indicators help demonstrate the effects of weightlessness during space travel. After several hours, the Crew Dragon approached the ISS and autonomously docked with the Space Station. This allowed Andreas and his colleagues to join their fellow astronauts on board.

Andreas Mogensen’s Huginn mission is an exciting and important endeavor in space exploration. Andreas Mogensen and his fellow crew members are now embarking on a six-month-long adventure in space. As they reside on the International Space Station, they will conduct various experiments and contribute to the ongoing research efforts aimed at expanding our understanding of the universe. The Huginn mission is another step forward in our quest to explore the vast expanse beyond our planet’s boundaries.
